Black Myth: Wukong sales have reportedly surpassed 30 million copies worldwide, according to a newly published report from the Central Committee of the Communist Youth League of China (CYL).
The figure was revealed in an article published by the Xinhua News Agency Research Institute titled Chinese Youth: Strivers of the New Era and Global Contributors. While developer Game Science has not publicly announced updated sales figures since August 2024, when the studio confirmed the game had exceeded 10 million copies sold, the report states that cumulative global sales have now surpassed 30 million units.
According to the publication, more than half of those sales came from overseas markets, suggesting that international players accounted for over 15 million copies sold.
The report highlighted Black Myth: Wukong as a notable example of a Chinese single-player game achieving significant success outside its domestic market. It stated that overseas sales for Chinese single-player titles have traditionally represented less than 30% of total sales, but Black Myth: Wukong was able to attract a global audience through multilingual voice localization, a simultaneous worldwide launch, and regional pricing strategies.
The CYL report added that the PC version, particularly through Steam, has been the game’s primary revenue driver. It also stated that the PlayStation 5 version has performed strongly in overseas markets.
If accurate, the reported milestone would place Black Myth: Wukong among the fastest-selling AAA games in recent years. The report noted that Elden Ring took roughly three years to surpass 30 million copies sold, while Cyberpunk 2077 required nearly five years to reach 35 million units.
Game Science has not independently confirmed the 30 million sales figure. Black Myth: Wukong is currently available on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.
