Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (2009) May Be Set To Receive A PS4 & PS5 Port

A PS4 and PS5 port of Activision’s 2009 first-person shooter, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, may be in the works.

A new listing for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (2009) has appeared on the Australian Classification board website. The classification date mentioned is October 1, 2026, suggesting that it may be related to a port on modern platforms. The game is already available on PC and on Xbox Series consoles via backward compatibility, so it is likely intended for PS4 and PS5. While a remastered version is available for PlayStation consoles, it doesn’t include the multiplayer mode.

The new classification has given the game an “R 18+” rating due to “high impact drug use, in-game purchases, online interactivity and chat.”

Given the success of PS4 and PS5 ports of Call of Duty: Black Ops and Call of Duty: Black Ops 2, it wouldn’t be surprising to see 2009’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 arrive on modern PlayStation consoles. In July, the weekly PS5 active player stats widget showed that Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 had reached 5.25 million players on the platform since its release a week prior. While not quite as impressive, the PS5 version of the original Call of Duty: Black Ops had achieved nearly 2 million users during the same week. Both titles were originally released more than a decade ago.

Earlier, known Call of Duty insider and enthusiast charlieINTEL had claimed that, as per their sources, the Call of Duty: Black Ops and Black Ops 2 ports on PlayStation consoles had more active online players at the time than Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 across all other platforms combined. It’s safe to say that both ports proved to be a huge success on PS4 and PS5, which is undoubtedly why we’re looking at the possibility of a new Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (2009) port.
