Directive 8020 Gets New Trailer Showcasing Gameplay and Co-Op Features

by Greg Martin

Supermassive Games has released a new trailer for Directive 8020, offering a condensed overview of its sci-fi survival horror experience ahead of launch on May 12, 2026. The 60-second video debuted during the Galaxies Showcase, providing a final look at the game’s core mechanics and narrative setup.

Directive 8020 takes players aboard the colony ship Cassiopeia, where a mission to secure humanity’s future quickly spirals into a fight for survival. The crew finds itself hunted by an alien organism capable of mimicking its victims, creating an atmosphere of paranoia where any character could be a threat.

The game builds on Supermassive’s cinematic storytelling approach while introducing more active gameplay elements. Players will need to evade real-time dangers, rely on stealth mechanics, and react quickly under pressure as they attempt to survive. The experience is designed to emphasize tension, with sound and movement playing a critical role in avoiding detection.

Narrative choice remains central to the experience, with branching story paths shaped by player decisions. A new story tree system allows players to track outcomes and revisit key moments using a rewind feature, while an optional survival mode removes this safety net, placing full weight on each decision.

Directive 8020 also supports both solo play and multiplayer options. At launch, players can experience the story in single-player or through a local Movie Night mode that supports up to 5 participants. An online multiplayer mode, enabling a similar shared experience, is planned as a free post-launch update.

The cast includes Lashana Lynch, who plays Brianna Young, the pilot of the Cassiopeia. Her character is central to the unfolding story as tensions rise and trust among the crew begins to break down.

Pre-orders are now available across PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam. Early purchases include a Digital Deluxe upgrade at no additional cost for a limited time, featuring bonus content such as cosmetic packs, a digital soundtrack, and an artbook.

With its blend of horror, player-driven storytelling, and cooperative play, Directive 8020 aims to expand on the formula established by Supermassive’s previous titles when it launches next month.
