Evil West PS5 vs Xbox Series X Graphics Comparison: Which Platform Is Best?

by Muhammad Ali Bari

Evil West is now available for both the PS5 and Xbox Series X. If you’ve been wondering which version manages to stay ahead of its competitor in terms of resolution and frame rate, read ahead.

As it turns out, the game looks and runs the same across both the current-generation consoles. On the PS5, Xbox Series X, you have the option to run Evil West in two graphical presets, namely Quality mode and Performance mode.

The graphics modes featured in Evil West on PS5, Xbox Series X, and Xbox Series S are as follows:

PS5

  • Quality Mode: 2160p/30fps
  • Performance Mode: 1080p/60fps

Xbox Series X

  • Quality Mode: 2160p/30fps
  • Performance Mode: 1080p/60fps

Xbox Series S

  • 1080p/30fps

The graphical settings in each of the 3 modes are identical across all three consoles, and they only differ in terms of resolution and frame rate. Evil West runs at an identical resolution on the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X in both Quality and Performance modes. In Resolution mode, it runs at a native 4K, while in Performance mode it runs at a much lower resolution of 1080p. Meanwhile, the Xbox Series S has no graphics options, and, therefore, is only able to run the game at 1080p.

It appears that the game isn’t doing a good enough job of utilizing current-gen consoles, as the drop in resolution when going from Quality to Performance modes on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X is quite substantial. Similarly, it’s disappointing to see the Xbox Series S version being limited to 1080p.

In terms of frame rate, both the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X offer similar performance across both Quality and Performance modes. Quality mode is capped at 30fps on both consoles, while Performance mode doubles the target frame rate to 60fps. The game does a good job of maintaining its target in either case. On the Xbox Series S, however, the frame rate is capped at 30fps, and there is no other performance option available.

Ultimately, while not exactly ideal, Performance mode in both the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X versions is the preferred way to play Evil West on consoles.
