Over a decade after its original release, Far Cry 4 has received a new update that enhances the game’s performance on modern consoles. Ubisoft has deployed patch version 1.08, which brings long-awaited support for 60 frames per second on the PlayStation 5 console.

Though the patch notes for Far Cry 4 update 1.08 are brief, the technical upgrade is a notable improvement for players revisiting Far Cry 4 through backward compatibility on PS5. Previously capped at lower frame rates, the game can now take better advantage of the console’s improved processing power, leading to a more fluid experience in both exploration and combat.

A recent Far Cry 4 update sparked controversy when players noticed unexpected changes to character models earlier this month. Several scenes had nudity removed, with adjustments made to both male and female designs. Protagonist Ajay Ghale’s model was altered to cover up certain elements, while a female NPC appeared with added clothing compared to the original version. Fans speculated Ubisoft had quietly censored the game globally—over a decade after its release.

At first, it seemed Ubisoft was updating the game to meet modern content standards. However, the developer later clarified the changes were never meant for the global version. Instead, they were region-specific edits for the Japanese release, where local regulations require certain adjustments. A technical error accidentally applied these files to the worldwide PC version on Steam.

Ubisoft has since fixed the issue, restoring the original global assets. Players encountering problems should restart Steam and install the latest update. The studio confirmed it has no plans to modify the game’s content for other regions.

Originally launched in November 2014, Far Cry 4 remains a standout in the series. Set in the fictional Himalayan country of Kyrat, the game follows Ajay Ghale as he gets caught in a civil war between dictator Pagan Min and the rebel Golden Path. Praised for its open-world design, gameplay, and setting, the title blends first-person combat, exploration, and branching storylines.
