Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 has received a new update on PlayStation 5, adding support for PlayStation VR2 and expanding the simulator’s immersion on console. The update is available now at no additional cost for existing owners of the game, though it requires PS VR2 hardware to use.
The VR update introduces a more immersive flying experience across the game’s full lineup of 125 aircraft. Each aircraft is designed to offer a distinct feel in virtual reality, bringing players closer to a cockpit-level perspective. The developers describe the update as delivering a “true-to-life experience” that enhances realism for both new players and long-time fans.
Alongside VR support, the update incorporates high-fidelity foveated rendering and integration with PS VR2 Sense controllers, allowing for more natural interaction with cockpit controls. Performance has also been optimized, particularly in dense urban environments, helping maintain stability while navigating detailed cityscapes.
Additional changes extend to gameplay systems. The Career Mode has been adjusted to unlock “Heavy” and VTOL specializations from the outset, while a new air traffic control queuing system prioritizes player requests during busy airspace scenarios.
Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 continues to leverage its large-scale digital recreation of Earth, powered by cloud-based machine learning. With the addition of PS VR2 support, the experience shifts closer to a full simulation setup on console, offering a more direct sense of flight within its expansive world.
