The launch week sales of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth in Japan are lower than those of Final Fantasy XVI and half of those of Final Fantasy VII Remake.
Famitsu has shared its estimated game sales data (excluding digital) in Japan for the week of February 26, 2024 to March 3, 2024. As per the data, sales of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth are lower than those of Final Fantasy XVI and less than half of those of Final Fantasy VII Remake. Despite this, the latest entry in the Final Fantasy VII remake trilogy was the top seller of the week in the country.
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, with 262,656 copies sold, is followed by Mario vs Donkey Kong with 14,480 copies sold, Switch Super Mario Bros. Wonder with 11,643 copies sold, Momotaro Electric Railway World “The Earth Revolves Around Hope!” with 9708 copies sold, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe with 9,251 copies sold, Crayon Shin-chan “Shiro of Charcoal Town” with 7,352 copies sold, Goblin Slayer Another Adventurer: Nightmare Feast with 6,822 copies sold, Splatoon 3 with 5,613 copies sold, Matsurika no Kei -kEi- Tenmeitane Iden with 5,537 copies sold, and Minecraft with 5,468 copies sold.
When comparing to other recent Final Fantasy titles in terms of opening week sales in Japan, Final Fantasy XVI sold 336,027 copies at retail, Final Fantasy XV sold 690,471 copies, and Final Fantasy VII Remake sold 702,853 copies.
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is now available exclusively on PS5. Similar to its predecessor, the gameplay blends real-time action with strategic and role-playing elements. The narrative unfolds immediately after the events of Remake. Players assume control of the mercenary Cloud Strife and a party primarily consisting of members from the eco-terrorist group AVALANCHE. Together, they embark on a journey across the Planet to thwart the megacorporation Shinra’s exploitation of the Lifestream, the planet’s life essence, as an energy source. Furthermore, they aim to defeat Sephiroth, a former elite SOLDIER, who plans to unite with the Planet to gain greater power.
