The forthcoming update for Square Enix’s latest action role-playing game, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, will address graphical issues in Performance mode.
Speaking in an interview during his visit to the Philippines, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth Director Naoki Hamaguchi stated that an update is on the way to address graphical issues that are currently present in the game’s Performance mode. While he was unable to share the full details of what the update contains, he did mention that isn’t far from release.
Regarding the graphical issues, Hamaguchi specifically highlighted a problem where facial lighting can make character shadows look rather odd in certain situations. He said that the upcoming update will address this issue. While he didn’t mention anything regarding improvements to the image scaling technique, it will likely be another focus for the update. He stated that the studio has received a lot of feedback on both the Graphics and Performance mode. The update that the development team is currently working is based on the aforementioned feedback.
Hamaguchi didn’t mention the inconsistent texture work seen in Fina Fantasy VII Rebirth, and whether the low resolutions textures would be improved in the coming update. There was a similar issue with the PS4 version of Final Fantasy VII Remake, where certain textures will visibly lower in resolution compared to the rest. It appears that certain corners have once again been cut in order to get the game up and running. It’s also worth mentioning that, besides a few notable exceptions, Unreal Engine 4 isn’t known to work particularly well with open world games.
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is now available exclusively on PS5. Similar to its predecessor, the gameplay blends real-time action with strategic and role-playing elements. The narrative unfolds immediately after the events of Remake. Players assume control of the mercenary Cloud Strife and a party primarily consisting of members from the eco-terrorist group AVALANCHE. Together, they embark on a journey across the Planet to thwart the megacorporation Shinra’s exploitation of the Lifestream, the planet’s life essence, as an energy source. Furthermore, they aim to defeat Sephiroth, a former elite SOLDIER, who plans to unite with the Planet to gain greater power.
