Square Enix appears to have released an update 1.001 for Final Fantasy VII Remake ahead of the launch of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth.
Final Fantasy VII Remake update 1.001 was released for both the PS4 and PS5 versions of the game. The download size for the PS5 version is around 4.65 GB, which makes the final game bump to 81.7 GB as per PlayStationGameSize.
The update has been released as patch 1.03 on the PS4 as well. The patch notes for the PS4 version are unclear. We have checked it and they don’t appear to list any changes. The only change mentioned in the patch notes officially is “Made various adjustments” which doesn’t explain what has been fixed here.
This patch is likely related to adding some sort of functionality, like save data bonus, between Final Fantasy VII Remake and Final Fantasy VII Rebirth. It could also be an update that adds the store link to purchase Final Fantasy VII Rebirth from within Remake.
The file size of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth with the day one update is over 145 GB. It is one of the largest RPG games on the PS5, putting it over other genre stalwarts like Baldur’s Gate 3.
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is the sequel to Final Fantasy VII Remake and it is the second game in a supposedly trilogy that basically takes the world, narrative direction, and characters of the original Final Fantasy 7, and puts a new and expanded twist on it. The game has been revered by fans and critics worldwide with the original being a massive success, while the sequel has also done well when it comes to the critical reception.
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth will be out on February 29, 2024, exclusively for the PS5. If it is a timed exclusive like the first game, it will be released on PC after a year.
