Frictional Games has announced that its upcoming sci-fi psychological thriller ONTOS has been delayed and will now launch in 2027.
The developer shared the news in a statement on social media, explaining that the additional development time is needed to realise the game’s full scope.
“ONTOS is our most ambitious game to date, both in terms of its size and scale, and in the depth and layers of our story and gameplay,” the studio said.
It continued, “In order to deliver this vision, we have decided to push the release of ONTOS to 2027.”
Frictional Games also said it plans to share more about the project in the near future, adding, “We look forward to sharing more updates about ONTOS, our characters, and our world soon.”
ONTOS is a first-person sci-fi psychological thriller and mystery adventure being developed by Frictional Games and published by Kepler Interactive. The game follows engineer Aditi Amani as she investigates Samsara, a decaying luxury hotel on the Moon, in an effort to uncover the truth behind her estranged father’s legacy.
The game features non-linear exploration and systems-driven puzzles known as “Experiments,” with player choices influencing how the story unfolds. It is in development for Windows PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
