Halo Infinite Has Been Profitable For Some Time, Xbox Is Investing In The Next Game
Xbox Game Studios and 343 Industries first-person shooter, Halo Infinite, has been profitable for some time.
During the latest episode of Septic Sauce (via), guest Jez Corden, who is known for his connections at Xbox, revealed that Halo Infinite is profitable now, and has been for a while. He said that he heard this information from his usual sources.
According to Corden, Halo Infinite has micro-transactions all over the place, implying that they contributed heavily in the game becoming profitable. Though, he did clarify that the game didn’t make a ton of profit. That said, considering the negativity surrounding it, Halo Infinite managing to earn enough live service revenue to push past the break even point is an accomplishment of sorts.
Corden also revealed that Xbox Game Studios and 343 Industries are already investing in the next Halo game, so any profitability that comes from Halo Infinite is worthwhile.
On the subject of the next Halo title, it was recently revealed via a job listing for the position of Senior Sound Designer at 343 Industries that the unannounced game is being developed in-house alongside support studios. This was in contrast to earlier reports that suggested the project would largely be outsourced. As per the listing, the new recruit will be responsible for creating and leading sound design for in-house and outsourced content for the next Halo title, ensuring consistency and quality across all audio assets. They will also be responsible for leading and guiding outsourcing partners, providing clear direction and feedback to align with the game’s audio vision. This suggests that a major portion of the project is being handled in-house by 343 Industries.
Prior reports had suggested that 343 Industries would focus on the concept and pre-production phases for upcoming projects, including “Lore checks,” while the actual production would be handled by other studios under its supervision, similar to the arrangement with Creative Assembly for Halo Wars 2.
