Square Enix may have offered the clearest look yet at the Nintendo Switch 2 version of Kingdom Hearts IV during the latest Nintendo Direct, with a platform-specific trailer providing an opportunity to compare the game against footage released for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
Following the presentation, Square Enix confirmed that Kingdom Hearts IV will launch simultaneously on Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox on PC, Epic Games Store, and Steam. The announcement marked the game’s return to the spotlight after a lengthy period without major updates.
A comparison between the newly released trailers highlights some technical differences between versions. The multiplatform footage appears to be rendered at roughly 1440p before being upscaled to 4K, while the Nintendo Switch 2 trailer appears to run at a native 1080p resolution. Some environmental textures and level-of-detail settings also appear to differ, particularly in background scenery and distant objects.
Despite these differences, the overall presentation remains remarkably similar across platforms. Character models, visual effects, lighting, and scene composition appear largely consistent, suggesting that the Nintendo Switch 2 version is aiming to closely match the experience available on more powerful hardware.
Kingdom Hearts IV is the fifteenth entry in the long-running franchise and serves as the beginning of the new “Lost Master” story arc. The game follows Sora after he awakens in Quadratum, a realistic urban setting inspired by modern Tokyo that represents a major departure from many of the fantasy worlds featured in previous installments.
While Square Enix has yet to share detailed technical specifications for each platform, the latest footage indicates that the Nintendo Switch 2 version is shaping up to be a close visual counterpart to its PlayStation, Xbox, and PC counterparts when it launches.
