The discount offer for Marathon Deluxe Edition on the PlayStation Store after availing the free trial only includes add-ons and not the game itself.
The PlayStation Store page (via wario64 on Blue Sky) description for the Deluxe Edition of Marathon has been updated to clear a confusion that arose after users availed the Open Play Week free trial, resulting in the premium version receiving a large discount, bringing its price down to just 14 US Dollars. It turns out this limited-time pricing is indeed too good to be true.
According to the updated details on the store page, for those who have already downloaded Marathon during the Open Play Week but have not yet purchased the game, purchasing the Deluxe Edition for 14 US Dollars will only grant access to add-on content. Once the Open Play Week has ended, access to the base game will no longer be available, and will therefore require purchase of the Standard Edition of Marathon. In other words, the 14 US Dollar price displayed to those who downloaded the free Marathon trial only reflects the Deluxe Edition add-on content, and the base game isn’t included in this offer.
The updated text on the Marathon Deluxe Edition store page can be seen below.
“Please note that if you have already downloaded Marathon during the Open Play Week but have not purchased Marathon:
- Purchasing this product will grant access to the Deluxe Edition content only for the duration of the Open Play Week, after which accessing this content will require purchase of the Marathon Standard Edition.
- The price displayed reflects only the Deluxe Edition content add-ons, not the Standard Edition price.”
For those who purchased the Deluxe Edition of Marathon after availing the trial at the reduced 14 US Dollar price as a result of this confusion may attempt to request a refund via PlayStation Support.
