Microsoft has reportedly purchased ad time for Starfield for this year. This suggests that they are gearing up for a marketing blowout and launch this year.

This is according to the popular insider Shpeshal Ed who talked about this on the Xbox Era podcast. During the podcast, Shpeshal Ed mentions that he is confident that Starfield will release in 2021 because he has heard from his sources that Microsoft has purchased advertisement time for Starfield. He takes a guess to say that this could suggest a reveal in Summer and a release by November.

Starfield has been in development for a long time now and was first revealed back in 2018 during Bethesda’s E3 2018 press conference. There have been a lot of rumors regarding the project including leaked screenshots. One of these rumors is that the game might launch this year and will be exclusive to the Xbox One/Series.

Bethesda has already stated after their acquisition by Microsoft that all of their games will now launch day one on Xbox Game Pass. This could make 2021 a big year for Game Pass subscribers with Starfield and Halo Infinite both launching later this year. It could lead to a record surge of new users. The last estimated number for Game Pass was 23 million subscribers.

This short reveal to release cycle won’t be new for Bethesda Softworks. They have pulled this successfully in the past with Fallout 4, which was announced and released in the same year. Capcom has similarly announced their games like Resident Evil 7 and Village and released them within a single year.
