Nintendo has officially confirmed The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Remake for Nintendo Switch 2, ending months of speculation surrounding the long-rumored project.

The announcement came during the latest Nintendo Direct, where the company shared a brief teaser for the remake. The footage largely recreated the iconic opening sequence from the original Nintendo 64 classic, offering fans their first official glimpse of the project and confirming a 2026 release window.

The reveal follows earlier reports from insider NateTheHate, who had claimed that Nintendo was working on an Ocarina of Time remake alongside a separate Star Fox remake project. While Nintendo had remained silent on the rumors, the latest Direct has now confirmed that one of the industry’s worst-kept secrets was indeed real.

According to Nintendo, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time will be fully rebuilt for Nintendo Switch 2 while preserving the core story and structure that made the original one of the most influential games ever released. Players will once again follow Link on a journey across time as he attempts to stop Ganondorf and save the kingdom of Hyrule.

Originally released for the Nintendo 64 in 1998, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is widely regarded as one of the most acclaimed video games of all time. With the remake now officially scheduled for 2026, Nintendo is preparing to introduce the landmark adventure to a new generation of players while giving longtime fans a fresh way to revisit one of the company’s most celebrated titles.
