Nintendo expects rising component prices and tariffs to have a major impact on its current fiscal year costs of goods sold.

In its financial results (via ZhugeEX on Twitter/X) for its fiscal year ended March, 2026, Nintendo reported that it expects a 100 billion Yen (640 million US Dollars) impact on its current fiscal year (April, 2026, to March, 2027) costs as a result of rising component prices and tariffs.

Nintendo component prices tariffs costs

Going by Nintendo’s assumptions for its fiscal year 2027 financial forecast, the exchange rates are expected to be  150 yen per US dollar and 175 yen per Euro. Regarding the impact of US tariff measures, the company’s forecast takes into account the tariff rates in effect as of the end of March, 2026. An impact of approximately 100.0 billion Yen (640 million US Dollars) due to rising component prices, particularly for memory, and tariff measures has been factored into costs of goods sold.

Based on the 16.5 million unit forecast for the Nintendo Switch 2, this translates to around 40 US Dollars in extra cost per console compared to last year. This falls in line with the recently announced price hike for the console. In its accompanied statement, the company said that it had decided to revise pricing “in light of changes in market conditions, and after considering the global business outlook.” In Japan, the Nintendo Switch 2 Japanese Language System will increase from 49,980 Yen to 59,980 Yen beginning May 25, 2026. Nintendo noted that the Multi-Language System sold through My Nintendo Store will remain unchanged in price. The company is also increasing prices for the original Switch family in Japan. The Nintendo Switch OLED Model will rise from ¥37,980 to ¥47,980, the standard Nintendo Switch from ¥32,978 to ¥43,980, and the Nintendo Switch Lite from ¥21,978 to ¥29,980.

Outside Japan, Nintendo confirmed that the Switch 2 price will also increase in several major regions starting September 1, 2026. In the United States, the console will move from 449.99 US Dollars to 499.99 US Dollars. Canada will see the price increase from 629.99 CAD to 679.99 CAD, while the European price on My Nintendo Store will rise from 469.99 Euros to 499.99 Euros.
