Nintendo Releases Switch and Switch 2 System Update Version 22.5.0

by Salal Awan

Nintendo has released system update version 22.5.0 for both Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2, introducing accessibility enhancements, eShop improvements, and additional user interface updates.

For Nintendo Switch 2, the update focuses primarily on accessibility. Nintendo has added Dutch and Russian support for the Text to Speech feature and also introduced both languages for the “Change Speech ⇔ Text During GameChat” option found in Accessibility settings. The update also includes the standard “general system stability improvements to enhance the user’s experience.”

The original Nintendo Switch receives a more substantial set of changes with version 22.5.0. The most notable addition is a redesigned Nintendo eShop interface that now aligns with the layout used on Nintendo Switch 2.

Nintendo has also updated the eShop to support console theme preferences. Players using the “Basic Dark” theme in System Settings will now see the eShop displayed in dark mode, matching the behavior of the Switch 2 storefront.

Additional security options have been introduced through User-Verification PIN support, allowing users to require PIN confirmation when accessing the Nintendo eShop and when using saved payment methods.

The update further improves video playback functionality in both the News application and Nintendo eShop. Users can now rewind or skip forward by 10 seconds using the ZL and ZR buttons while watching videos in full-screen mode.

Nintendo’s official patch notes for the original Switch include:

  • Redesigned Nintendo eShop layout
  • eShop theme now reflects the console’s Basic Dark setting
  • User-Verification PIN support for eShop access and saved payment methods
  • 10-second rewind and fast-forward controls for full-screen videos in News and eShop
  • General system stability improvements

Version 22.5.0 was released on June 15, 2026, and is available now for both Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 users. The update continues Nintendo’s efforts to bring feature parity between the two systems, particularly through the redesigned eShop experience.
