No Man’s Sky 6.4 Update Introduces The Swarm Expedition and New Enemies

Hello Games has released the No Man’s Sky 6.4 update, introducing Expedition Twenty-Two: The Swarm alongside new enemy types, cooperative progression systems, and a large collection of gameplay improvements. The update expands both exploration and combat systems while adding new cosmetic rewards and limited-time expedition objectives.

Beyond the new expedition content, Patch 6.4 also delivers extensive optimization work, space combat refinements, quality-of-life improvements, and bug fixes across multiple platforms. Several long-standing issues related to teleporters, inventories, corvettes, and interface behavior have also been addressed.

The Swarm Expedition

Expedition Twenty-Two

  • Added Expedition Twenty-Two: The Swarm
  • Expedition will run for approximately eight weeks
  • Players are assigned to one of three Traveller teams
  • Each team receives a unique ship and uniform based on team colors
  • Teams must cooperate to unlock the final battle

Prismatic Core Progression

  • Progress is represented through construction of the Prismatic Core in the Space Anomaly
  • Progress can also be tracked through:
    • Mission Log
    • Galactic Atlas website

Mission Categories

  • Added three mission categories tied to Prismatic Core construction:
    • Purge
    • Restoration
    • Sabotage
  • Each mission category affects construction progress differently

Expedition Rewards

  • Added new posters
  • Added new decals
  • Added new titles
  • Added soul fragment team flags
  • Added Direwasp rifle Multi-Tool
  • Added Direwasp Flightpack
  • Added six-piece Direwasp customization set

New Enemy Types

Swarmer Enemies

  • Added small agile swarmer ships
  • Added Hive of Glass boss enemy

Dissonant Planet Encounters

  • Crashed swarmer ships can now appear on dissonant planets
  • Crash sites are defended by planetary swarmers
  • Buried swarmer debris can now appear on dissonant worlds containing salvageable scrap

Stability and Optimization

  • Fixed rare softlock causing the Connecting banner to remain indefinitely on frontend screens
  • Fixed crash related to thumbnail rendering for complex corvette-class starships
  • Added memory and performance optimizations for ship trails and speedlines
  • Improved wheeled Exocraft performance on:
    • Nintendo Switch
    • Xbox One
    • PlayStation 4
  • Added significant freighter battle optimizations
  • Improved CPU lighting calculation performance
  • Improved object visibility performance in complex scenes
  • Optimized UI memory usage on PS4 Pro at sub-4K resolutions
  • Fixed PS4 Pro 4K gameplay crash
  • Fixed several rare crashes

Space Combat Improvements

  • Improved visibility of targeted enemy ships in third-person combat
  • Improved third-person starship aiming
  • Improved auto-follow navigation during space combat
  • Auto-follow can now boost the ship
  • Improved enemy ship navigation and flight patterns
  • Weak point hits now always trigger critical damage
  • Non-weak point hits no longer trigger critical damage
  • Improved starship speedline visuals
  • Fixed delayed enemy count notifications during combat
  • Improved player ship controls during combat
  • Fixed Sentinel interceptors appearing when space combat was disabled
  • Fixed Sentinel interceptors failing to detect crimes when ground combat was disabled
  • Fixed negative countdown timer issue for pulse engine recovery
  • Improved pulse engine recovery notifications for current ship technology

Quality-of-Life Improvements and Bug Fixes

Teleporters and Galaxy Progression

  • Fixed teleporter endpoints disappearing after progressing through the galactic core
  • Fixed teleporter endpoints not appearing outside the player’s home galaxy
  • Fixed In Stellar Multitudes mission directing players incorrectly

Corvette Fixes

  • Fixed corvettes being unable to land in Space Stations and the Anomaly
  • Fixed disappearing backpack issue while piloting corvettes in third person
  • Corvette modules now display proper names through the Analysis Visor

Analysis Visor Improvements

  • Fixed Analysis Visor closing while tagging markers near interactable objects
  • Fixed markers appearing for non-existent resource deposits

Inventory and Ship Fixes

  • Fixed inventory transfer issue when purchasing ships
  • Fixed inability to delete items transferred into storage containers
  • Fixed camera spinning after rapidly exiting ships during communicator calls
  • Fixed camera judder after repairing ships

Nintendo Switch Fixes

  • Fixed Corrupted Sentinel flickering on Nintendo Switch and Switch 2

Gameplay Fixes

  • Fixed retroviral pellet duplication exploit
  • Arena League Challenger Invitations now encourage battles across multiple planets
  • Arena League Challenger Invitations now prioritize unvisited Holo-Arenas
  • Arena League Champion Invitations now work correctly in Outlaw systems
  • Improved companion experience balance in Holo-Arena battles

UI and Interface Fixes

  • Fixed persistent Twitch rewards prompt after all rewards were claimed
  • Added support for viewing Xbox Gamercards in multiplayer sessions
  • Hid Quick Menu keyboard prompts on PC and handheld devices without keyboard and mouse controls
  • Fixed disappearing armor displays near the Exosuit Research merchant
  • Hid community mission holograms when no blueprints are active
  • Fixed touch control issue preventing expedition reward claims
  • Fixed gyro setting save issue from frontend menus

No Man’s Sky originally launched in August 2016 for PlayStation 4 and Windows before expanding to Xbox One, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, macOS, and Nintendo Switch 2. The open-world sci-fi survival game features exploration, trading, combat, crafting, and procedural galaxy generation.
