Overwatch 2 Won’t Release In 2022 According To a New Report

Overwatch 2 won’t arrive in 2022 according to a new report. The rumor suggests that it is taking longer to develop a sequel to Overwatch.

Earlier this year, Activision confirmed that Overwatch 2 and Diablo 4 are not going to launch in 2021. It appears that even 2022 is not on cards since the development is taking longer than expected.

This news comes from Alex, a streamer and player of Overwatch that cites sources closer to the development team and suggests that the game might not arrive in 2022.

“I’ve heard from multiple people close to my original source with OW2 that the development is taking longer than expected. From what I can gather a release in 2022 does not seem likely anymore. I hope this is false and I’m proven wrong.”

The leaker mentions that this rumor may be false while the release date doesn’t seem likely now. We haven’t heard about the game for a long time now since it was first shown all the way back in 2019.

Activision Blizzard is currently going through a lawsuit filed by the California Department of Fair Employment and Housing. They investigated reports of harassment and misconduct at Activision Blizzard for two years before the lawsuit was filed earlier in July. It is possible that this could have contributed to a longer development cycle for Overwatch 2. COVID-19 has also impacted development for a lot of major games, and delayed many games to 2022 and beyond.
