PlayStation Store for PS3 and PS Vita to Close in 2027

Sony Interactive Entertainment has announced plans to close the PlayStation Store on PS3 and PS Vita, with the shutdown beginning in selected regions later this year before expanding worldwide in July 2027.

Once the storefronts close, players will no longer be able to purchase new digital content on either platform. However, Sony confirmed that users will still be able to download games and other content they have already purchased for the foreseeable future.

The rollout will begin in Mexico, Honduras and Nicaragua, where the PS3 PlayStation Store will close starting in August 2026. Sony will then extend the closure to additional countries across Latin America and the Middle East later this year.

For all remaining regions, including the global shutdown of both the PS3 and PS Vita PlayStation Stores, the closure is scheduled for July 2027.

According to Sony, the decision comes as the PlayStation Store continues to evolve with modern commerce systems and updated payment processing standards. The company said the ageing PS3 and PS Vita hardware can no longer support these requirements at the level needed to maintain the service.

Sony acknowledged that the announcement will be disappointing for many players, describing both systems as an important part of PlayStation’s history. The company said the decision was not made lightly but explained that it needs to focus its resources on newer platforms where the majority of PlayStation users now play.

Although new purchases will no longer be possible after the shutdown dates, players will continue to have access to previously purchased digital content through downloads after the stores close.
