Despite being one of March 2025’s monthly PS Plus Essential title, Dragon Age: The Veilguard failed to receive a major boost in players.
Using a gameplay data sample from over 3.4 million active PSN accounts, the TrueTrophies portal tracks the player count of every PS5 and PS4 game to produce its weekly PlayStation Chart. All three of the monthly PS Plus Essential titles for March 2025, namely Dragon Age: The Veilguard, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Cowabunga Collection, and Sonic Colors: Ultimate, made their appearance on this week’s list.

Based on the chart, of the three monthly PS Plus titles, it was Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Cowabunga Collection that took the lead with 8.2% more players, while the recently released Dragon Age: The Veilguard didn’t get the boost in player count EA had likely expected after close to 50 million PS Plus subscribers gained access to the action role-playing game. It did receive a greater boost than Sonic Colors: Ultimate, however.

A number of factors may have contributed to the less than stellar boost in player count for Dragon Age: The Veilguard on PS5. Despite receiving a generally favorable aggregate score of 82 on Metacritic, the game has generally been perceived to have a mixed reception. Additionally, the 3.4 million active players that have been sampled by TrueTrophies are generally completionists who prefer to go after shorter games that can add a platinum trophy to their stats with relative ease. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Cowabunga Collection’s trophies are very easy to unlock, with a required playtime of just 1 to 2 hours.
