Spider-Man Remastered and Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart Get FPS Boost With New PS5 VRR Update

by Salal Awan

After the release of the new PS5 VRR update, Spider-Man, Miles Morales, and Ratchet and Clank have received an FPS boost on PS5.

According to technical analysis of this PS5 VRR update, the new FPS boost enables these games to run at an unlocked frame rate that can hit up to 120 FPS on the PS5. This frame rate can’t be achieved at all times though, and it mostly averages around 90 FPS. This is still highly impressive nonetheless.

Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart and Spider-Man Remastered along with Miles Morales were patched with a new update that was released by Insomniac Games. It allowed these games to offer an unlocked frame rate when running in conjunction with the VRR option available on the PS5. You can learn how to enable it on your console through this guide.

In almost all three Insomniac Games releases for PS5, they had offered three display modes: Fidelity, Performance, and Performance RT mode. After the new update, all of these modes now offer an unlocked frame rate on the PS5. This means that the 30 FPS cap is no longer applicable in Fidelity mode and the game does actually average out at more than 40 FPS in all three games.

This is actually great news if you own a VRR-supported display because it will allow the games to render with the best resolution and highest graphical fidelity and still offer a low input lag by running at greater than 30 FPS on the PS5.
