CD Projekt Red has delayed The Witcher 3 PS5 and Xbox Series X upgrade citing a shift to internal development as one of the reasons.
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt was supposed to get a PS5 and Xbox Series X upgrade later in Q2 2022. This upgrade is no longer coming now that CD Projekt Red has shifted the focus of this upgrade from Saber Interactive to an internal studio. This means that the ray-tracing update that was planned for PC in addition to a native PS5 and Xbox Series X version is no longer happening anytime soon.
In a post on their social media account, they have shared the following statement.
We have decided to have our in-house development team conduct the remaining work on the next-gen version of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. We are currently evaluating the scope of work to be done and thus have to postpone Q2 release until further notice.
We’ll update you as soon as we can. Thank you for your understanding.
This wasn’t just a free upgrade that would implement native PS5 and Xbox Series X support, but it would also bring some additional new content including a costume for Geralt that was based on The Witcher TV Show developed by Netflix.
As of now, CD Projekt Red hasn’t shared any release date on when this upgrade will be out, but they have already delayed it from 2021 to 2022, and still don’t have a release time for it after the delay.
