Trails from Zero and Azure Head to PS5, Switch 2

NIS America has confirmed that The Legend of Heroes: Trails from Zero and The Legend of Heroes: Trails to Azure will be released on PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch 2 later this year. The announcement brings the full Crossbell arc to newer hardware, giving players another opportunity to experience one of the most regarded storylines in the long-running series.

Both titles will feature a range of technical improvements on the new platforms, including support for 4K resolution and smoother performance. The Nintendo Switch 2 versions will also introduce mouse input functionality, offering an additional control option. Players will be able to purchase each game individually through digital storefronts, while a physical bundle containing both entries will also be available.

Trails from Zero follows protagonist Lloyd Bannings as he returns to his hometown of Crossbell and joins the city’s police force. Assigned to the Special Support Section, a unit tasked with handling smaller-scale incidents, Lloyd works alongside a diverse group of allies while uncovering deeper issues affecting the city. The setting itself plays a central role, with Crossbell depicted as a thriving hub caught between political tensions involving neighboring powers.

On newer systems, the game benefits from enhanced visuals, including improved textures and higher frame rates that can reach up to 120fps. Players will also have the option to switch between original and upgraded visuals, while features such as High Speed Mode allow for faster traversal and combat pacing.

Trails to Azure continues the narrative shortly after the events of its predecessor, with the Special Support Section gaining recognition following their earlier efforts. That brief period of stability quickly fades as new factions emerge and external pressures mount, placing Crossbell at the center of an escalating conflict. The sequel builds on the original with additional combat mechanics such as Burst and Back Attack, along with new gameplay elements, including vehicle customization.

Save data from Trails from Zero can be carried over into Trails to Azure, unlocking extra dialogue and variations in story events. Like its predecessor, the sequel also supports higher performance targets and visual enhancements on the new hardware.
