Nintendo has announced Xenoblade Genesis, a new entry in Monolith Soft’s acclaimed JRPG franchise, set to launch exclusively for Nintendo Switch 2 in 2027.
Alongside the reveal of the new title, Nintendo also confirmed Nintendo Switch 2 Edition upgrades for the entire Xenoblade Chronicles trilogy. The series, known for its vast worlds, large-scale sci-fi storytelling, and real-time combat systems, originally launched on Nintendo Switch but often faced technical limitations due to the scope of its environments and gameplay systems.
The enhanced editions aim to address those issues with major performance and visual improvements. According to Nintendo, the upgraded releases will use NVIDIA DLSS technology and target 4K resolution at 60fps while docked, as well as 1080p at 60fps in handheld mode. Players can also expect improved lighting and additional gameplay features, including a new high-speed traversal vehicle in Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition.
The rollout begins immediately, with Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition available digitally starting today. Xenoblade Chronicles 2 is scheduled to arrive on July 30, while Xenoblade Chronicles 3 will follow on December 3. Players who already own the original Nintendo Switch versions will be able to purchase paid upgrade packs at a reduced cost.
