Persona 5 Royal Sells More Than 200K Copies In Japan, Closer To Persona 4 Debut

Persona 5 Royal has launched in Japan on October 31. The latest weekly sales result for the game are out and it has sold more than 200K copies.

Persona 5 Royal is an expansion to the original game that offers an extended epilogue. It also introduces many new gameplay elements, a new playable character, in addition to other content. The original game is a massive success for Atlus and currently holds the record as the all-time best selling Persona game across PS3 and PS4.

While this expansion is exclusive to the PS4, it has still done well in its debut week in Japan. The game has opened to sales of 201K according to the Famitsu sales estimate. This is lower than the 268K sold by Persona 5 on PS4, or a combined 344K (76K for PS3) copies of Persona 5 in its debut week. It is closer to the sales of Persona 4 on PS2, which opened to 212K copies.

  5. Persona Q: Shadow of the Labyrinth (186K) – 3DS

Atlus has sold more than 10 million copies of the Persona series worldwide. The latest mainline game, Persona 5, has sold more than two million copies and the majority of the sales were achieved from the overseas market.

Persona 5 Royal will be out in the West in Spring 2020. Atlus hasn’t shared a release date for the localized version but a rumored release window for it was in March 2020. Atlus is also working on a spin-off to the main game called Persona 5 Scramble. This spin-off will launch for the PS4 and Nintendo Switch in February 20, 2020, for Japan.
