Call of Duty: Warzone Ending Support on PS4 and Xbox One Ahead of Modern Warfare 4 Launch

Activision has announced that Call of Duty: Warzone will be phased out on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One as the franchise prepares for the launch of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 and the beginning of a new Warzone era.

According to the publisher, Warzone will be removed from digital storefronts on PS4 and Xbox One starting June 4. After that date, new players on those platforms will no longer be able to download the game, though existing users will retain access and can continue playing.

Additional restrictions will follow later in the month. Beginning June 25, Activision will shut down the in-game store for Warzone on PS4 and Xbox One. Certain purchases, including Call of Duty Points bundles, will no longer be available. Players will still be able to progress through free Battle Pass tiers and unlock rewards from the remaining Black Ops 7 seasons.

The final step of the transition will occur with the launch of Season 1 following Modern Warfare 4’s release on October 23. At that point, Warzone on PS4 and Xbox One will no longer be playable.

Activision said the move is tied to Warzone’s upcoming integration with Modern Warfare 4. Starting with Season 1, the battle royale will adopt Modern Warfare 4 content and seasonal progression as part of a unified ecosystem spanning both games.

Modern Warfare 4 launches on October 23 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC. The game’s first season is expected to arrive shortly afterward, bringing new content and progression systems to both the premium title and Warzone.

Originally released in 2020, Call of Duty: Warzone became one of the most successful battle royale games in the industry, attracting millions of players across console and PC platforms. The upcoming platform cutoff marks the end of support for the game’s last-generation console versions after more than six years of service.
