A sequel to Elden Ring is currently not being considered by FromSoftware, as the studio is busy working on multiple projects from a wide range of genres.
During a roundtable interview, FromSoftware Director Hidetaka Miyazaki was asked whether the studio is considering turning Elden Ring into a series, or if it is more focused on creating new IPs. In response, he said that, at this point, the development team is not considering a sequel to Elden Ring. However, he added that this doesn’t mean it is dismissing the potential of the IP. As for what’s next, he stated that FromSoftware is working on multiple projects simultaneously. These include a variety of concepts, and he hoped that players look forward to what comes next.
In response to a question regarding future project being considered by FromSoftware, the Elden Ring director stated that he couldn’t go into detail on this topic. However, he did say that the studio has several projects in the works, spanning a variety of genres. Some are titles Miyazaki himself is directing, while others are led by other team members. He believes these projects will showcase new facets of FromSoftware.
On whether Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree was ever considered for release as a standalone title, Miyazaki said that the expansion was always developed as DLC. He added that a large amount of content was necessary to capture the sense of adventure Elden Ring is known for.
Lastly, in his message to FromSoftware’s fans, Miyazaki said that he’s truly grateful to all the players who’ve supported the studio. According to him, the support from fans has given the development team immense strength, and even as it reflects on areas it can improve, it is dedicated to making even better games. He added that this sentiment is genuine, and that he hopes fans will continue to look forward to the studio’s future efforts.
