Part 3 of Square Enix’s Final Fantasy VII Remake trilogy may be multiplatform at launch, as director Naoki Hamaguchi assures the best approach for both fans and the business.

During a recent interview with Famitsu (via Genki_JPN and xenosaga7 on Twitter/X), Final Fantasy VII Remake trilogy director Naoki Hamaguchi hinted that Part 3 may be a multiplatform release from the get-go. While he stopped short of confirming specific platforms or release plans for the third entry, his statement suggests that Square Enix is actively considering a day-one strategy across all platforms.

When asked whether the release timing for the final installment would change due to Square Enix’s increasing focus on multiplatform publishing, Hamaguchi acknowledged that players increasingly want to experience major releases simultaneously regardless of platform. “We cannot yet provide specific details regarding the release timing,” Hamaguchi said. “However, what we have strongly felt while developing this multi-platform title is that users want to experience the excitement at the same time.” He added that the development team is “seriously considering how to best develop the third title on multiple platforms, both for the fans and from a business perspective,” while highlighting the importance of allowing players to “share the same time.”

According to the Final Fantasy VII Remake trilogy director, modern game development increasingly requires studios to think about multiple platforms from the earliest stages of production rather than treating ports as a separate process after launch. “From rendering and streaming to memory design and asset configuration, it’s necessary to design with multiple environments in mind from the start,” he explained. “The era of ‘the porting team working hard later’ is over.”

Hamaguchi mentioned that lessons learned from bringing both Remake and Rebirth to additional hardware have already been incorporated into the design philosophy of Part 3. He further noted that the development team at Square Enix has reached a point where game experiences are no longer defined solely by the most powerful hardware. Instead, the goal is to ensure players can immerse themselves in the world with the same level of enthusiasm regardless of where they choose to play.

The Final Fantasy VII Remake trilogy director also assured fans that the team is committed to delivering a satisfying finale. “That’s why we absolutely won’t leave the third installment in an incomplete state,” he said. “I want to bring it to a point where I can proudly say, ‘I have completed the FFVII Remake series to the very end.'”
