New details regarding Final Fantasy VII Remake Part 3 have emerged, with director Naoki Hamaguchi offering a brief look at gameplay plans for key characters while also addressing the absence of DLC for Final Fantasy VII Rebirth.
Speaking in an interview with Ntower, Hamaguchi hinted at how Vincent and Cid will play in the upcoming title, though he stopped short of providing specific mechanics. “I can’t say too much (laughs), but in the final game, both Vincent and Cid have been designed with incredibly appealing combat capabilities. They’re characters I can’t wait for everyone to actually try out,” he said.
Hamaguchi also shed light on why Square Enix chose not to pursue story DLC for Rebirth, despite internal discussions that continued until late in development planning. “When it came to Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, we seriously considered the possibility of developing a story DLC right up until immediately before the project officially moved into the planning phase,” he explained.
He added that the decision ultimately came down to maintaining focus on the trilogy’s final installment. “However, within the context of a long-term trilogy, we concluded that running development of the second installment’s DLC in parallel with the third installment would inevitably affect the third game’s schedule and overall quality. At that point, I believed my primary role was not to add DLC, but to deliver the third entry to fans as quickly as possible at a level of polish they would find satisfying. For that reason, we decided to forgo story DLC for Rebirth.”
Looking ahead, Hamaguchi suggested that post-launch content for Part 3 has not been ruled out entirely. “As for DLC beyond the third installment, I believe that will ultimately depend on how strongly fans continue to support Final Fantasy VII as both a title and a franchise. If there is significant demand, we’d certainly be open to exploring those possibilities proactively.”
The comments provide a clearer picture of Square Enix’s priorities as development continues on the final chapter of the remake trilogy, with a stronger emphasis placed on delivering a complete and polished experience at launch.
