Frictional Games has confirmed that a remastered version of its 2010 survival horror adventure game, Amnesia: The Dark Descent, is planned for release later in 2026.

The announcement was made in Frictional Games’ 2025 annual report (via CarlZzZoneNnn on Reddit), where it outlined its current and future projects. While the report primarily focused on the development of the studio’s upcoming sci-fi horror game ONTOS, it also contained a brief update regarding one of the Swedish studio’s most iconic titles.

In the section covering significant events during the financial year, Frictional Games stated that its primary focus throughout 2025 has been continuing development on ONTOS. The studio noted that the game was officially unveiled during The Game Awards in December, 2025, and said it has received a very positive response. It added that it expects strong sales when ONTOS launches at the beginning of 2027.

Alongside that update, the report confirmed that Frictional Games is working on a remastered version of Amnesia: The Dark Descent. “We are also planning to release a new version of Amnesia: The Dark Descent at the end of 2026,” said the report. It didn’t elaborate on what changes or enhancements players can expect, nor did it mention target platforms.

Frictional Games also stated that a smaller team has been working on the pre-production of its next major project, which has not yet been announced or given a release window. The company noted that its older titles continue to perform well commercially through ongoing sales, platform agreements, and strategic discounts, even as development spending has exceeded revenue during the final stages of work on its larger projects.

Amnesia: The Dark Descent was originally released on September 8, 2010, for Windows PC, followed by a PS4 version on November 22, 2016, an Xbox One version on September 28, 2018, and a Nintendo Switch version on September 12, 2019. The player assumes control of Daniel, an archaeologist who must make his way through the perils of Castle Brennenburg.
