God Of War Ragnarok Release Date May Have Accidentally Been Leaked

The release date for God of War Ragnarok may have inadvertently been leaked, based on new merchandise listings. A batch of merchandise were previously spotted by by eagle-eyed fans on Geeky Zone in the UK.

A majority of the aforementioned God of War Ragnarok merchandise listings had a September release date, implying that the game may be set to arrive in the same month. However, two days later, all listings on the online store were mysteriously removed. This gives further credibility to the September release date for God of War Ragnarok.

Based on various tweets from the development team, work on God of War Ragnarok has been going well, and therefore a September, 2022 release date wouldn’t be out of the ordinary. PlayStation often has a major first-party AAA release near the holiday season, and the sequel to 2018’s God of War could be it.

Santa Monica Studio’s God of War Ragnarok is officially set for a 2022 release on the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5, although a concrete release date has yet to be announced. Next week’s State of Play event will likely not have any news to share on the game, as it mainly concerns third-party games from PlayStation partners as well as PlayStation VR2 news.

The game will be set in ancient Scandinavia and will star Kratos and his adolescent son Atreus, and will be somewhat inspired on Norse mythology. The game will chronicle Ragnarok, a series of events that bring about the end of days, and show the deaths of certain Norse gods, which was promised to happen when Kratos killed the Baldur in the previous game.

Fimbulwinter, a vast winter that spans three summers, is drawing to a conclusion three years after the events of the previous game. When Fimbulwinter comes to a close, Ragnarök is said to commence. A now-adolescent Atreus, intrigued and perplexed by the previous game’s discoveries, seeks answers to concerns about his newfound identity as well as a method to prevent Ragnarök from occurring.

Kratos and Atreus go out to see the Norse God of War, Tr, who was previously thought to be dead, while searching for explanations. The two confront new perils as they travel through the nine kingdoms. Thor, the Norse God of Thunder, and Goddess Freya, the heroes’ erstwhile friend and ally, are now posing a great threat to Kratos and Atreus, seeking vengeance for the slaughter of their family members in the previous game.
