Rockstar Games has officially announced the release of GTA VI. The highly anticipated game is slated for a 2025 launch on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
Sam Houser, the Founder of Rockstar Games, expressed excitement about the upcoming release, emphasizing the game’s advancements in creating immersive, story-driven open-world experiences. ‘Grand Theft Auto VI’ is set to take players to the state of Leonida, including the vibrant Vice City and beyond, marking the most expansive and immersive installment in the Grand Theft Auto series to date. Rockstar Games is celebrating its 25th anniversary in December and has been a pioneer in the open-world genre since the launch of Grand Theft Auto III in 2001. The company’s subsequent releases, including Grand Theft: Vice City, Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, and Grand Theft Auto IV, have contributed to the series’ status as one of the best-selling, most critically acclaimed, and influential properties in modern entertainment. Grand Theft Auto V, the latest iteration, has sold over 190 million units to date.
Apart from the Grand Theft Auto series, Rockstar Games’ Red Dead Redemption series has also achieved significant success, selling over 81 million units worldwide. Red Dead Redemption 2 has set new benchmarks in fidelity and immersion.
Before its reveal, the announcement of the trailer on X (formerly Twitter) became one of the most liked gaming tweets on the platform. The last major release for the series was Grand Theft Auto V which launched in 2013 for the PS3 and Xbox 360. It was followed by a release on PS4 and Xbox One, and then subsequently the PC, PS5, and Xbox Series S|X.
There is no PC version of GTA VI mentioned by Rockstar or Take-Two in the official press release, but if history is anything to go by, they will confirm the PC version later down the line.
