Level-5 has issued a public statement addressing piracy and the unauthorized distribution of its games, warning that it plans to take legal action against copyright infringement involving its software.
In the statement, the company said it has recently observed “unauthorized reproduction and distribution” of its games across various online communities.
“Except where specifically permitted under copyright law or other applicable regulations, reproducing, modifying, or editing our game software without our authorization, as well as distributing or selling such materials to third parties, constitutes copyright infringement regardless of the purpose or intended use,” Level-5 stated.
The developer and publisher added that they are continuing to monitor these activities closely and intend to respond with enforcement measures where necessary.
“To protect our work, we will take necessary legal action against any such copyright infringement, including content removals and account suspensions,” the company said.
Level-5 also urged players not to download or use pirated versions of its games. “We would also like to ask our community to refrain from downloading or using pirated copies of our games,” the statement continued.
The company concluded by thanking players for respecting its work and stated that it wants to ensure players can enjoy its titles “safely and fairly.”
The statement arrives amid growing concerns across the gaming industry surrounding leaks, piracy, and unauthorized distribution of unreleased titles. Several publishers and developers have recently responded to similar incidents involving leaked builds and cracked versions of upcoming games.
