Microsoft is narrowing down the supply of its current-gen console, Xbox Series X, in Brazil, based on a new report.
According to a report from Universo Online’s Folha de Sao Paulo portal, the Xbox Series X console has disappeared from store shelves in Brazil amid a potential change in Microsoft’s strategy regarding the product. None of the 17 local online stores listed on the official Xbox website have the console available for sale. The Xbox Series X has a retail price of R$4,499 in the country.
The only Xbox Series X that are currently available in the Brazilian markets are being sold by companies that import them independently or resell them, which is essentially a grey market. In these cases, the console is sold at prices above MSRP, ranging from R$5,000 to almost R$10,000.
In a statement to Universo Online, Microsoft stated that the availability of the Xbox Series X may change over time in different countries. While the company didn’t confirm the discontinuation of the console in Brazil, it did indicate a change in its strategy. “People in Brazil will be able to continue enjoying the Xbox platform on their current consoles, PCs, with Game Pass, and on smartphones, tablets, or TVs with Xbox Cloud Gaming,” said a Microsoft spokesperson.
Microsoft suggested that players may look up the Xbox support site to find out which products are available in each region. The Xbox Series X is currently listed as available in Brazil, even though this is not what consumers are experiencing in local stores. On social media, it is common to find people from Brazil complaining about the absence of Xbox Series X or the high prices charged for it in the grey market, at least since the end of 2024.
