A 5th installment in the Crash Bandicoot series may be in development, according to a new rumor. During the latest episode of Windows Central Gaming’s Xbox Chaturdays podcast, Xbox Two’s Rand al Thor claimed that Toys For Bob will show off a new Crash Bandicoot game at the Xbox and Bethesda Games showcase, which is scheduled for June 12, 2022.
Xbox insider Jez Corden also chimed in and said that there will indeed be a new Crash Bandicoot. While he didn’t specify whether it’ll be titled as Crash Badicoot 5, he did mention an interesting little detail (timestamp at 1:29:00 in the video below).
According to Corden, the new Crash game that is in development at Toys For Bob will be a multiplayer game. He wasn’t sure what sort of multiplayer game it’d be, but, as far as he knows, it’s going to be a 4-player brawler that is tailored to Crash Bandicoot’s gameplay.
This isn’ the first Crash Bandicoot game to feature multiplayer. Crash Team Racing and some of the numbered releases featured competitive multiplayer modes. However, of all the multiplayer Crash Bandicoot ventures, Crash Team Racing achieved the greatest amount of success, with Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled being the most recent iteration.
Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled is a kart racing video game released in 2019 by Activision and developed by Beenox. The game is a remastered version of Naughty Dog’s Crash Team Racing, which was released for the PlayStation in 1999 and focuses on players controlling one of multiple Crash Bandicoot characters to compete in races with various power-ups to aid in combating opponents.
Additional material from Crash Nitro Kart and Crash Tag Team Racing is included, as well as changes to the original gameplay, such as kart customization, two adventure mode versions, and an in-game store. On June 21, 2019, Nitro-Fueled was released globally for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
