PS5 lifetime sales are now almost twice that of the combined Xbox Series X and Series S sales figure in the UK, according to a new report.
According to a market statistics shared in a report from the Digital Entertainment and Research Association (via), PS5 lifetime sales in the UK have reached 4,600,000 units, which is nearly double that of Xbox Series consoles’ combined lifetime sales figure of 2,570,000 units in the country. Sony Interactive Entertainment’s current-gen console is a mere 514,000 units shy of reaching the doubled figure.

Furthermore, the report also revealed that PS4 has reached lifetime sales of 7,723,000 units in the UK, surpassing the Nintendo Switch’s lifetime sales of 7,250,000 units in the UK.
As per the report, the digital games market of 4,292.8 million Pounds in the UK is segmented by mobile platforms taking the largest share of 37%, console DLC taking 20%, console full game sales taking 15%, console subscriptions taking 13%, MMO game subscriptions and microtransactions taking 9%, PC download-to-own titles taking 5%, and social gaming taking 1%, and, lastly, PC casual/PC pay-to-play having next to no contribution.
Going by the above statistics, PlayStation is the leading player in the UK games market, followed by Nintendo, and then Microsoft, with PC playing an insignificant role.
In related news, during an investor presentation on the occasion of Take-Two Interactive’s recent earnings call, the company revealed that the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S consoles have amassed combined sales of more than 94 million units, based on worldwide estimates as of November, 2024. Based on these estimates, the PS5 has outpaced the Xbox Series consoles by more than a 2 to 1 ratio. Furthermore, the gap is gradually widening, moving towards a 3 to 1 ratio.
It was also revealed by Mat Piscatella, Executive Director and Video Game Industry Analyst at Circana (NPD), that lifetime sales of the PS5 have outpaced those of the PS4 by 7%, while Xbox Series consoles have fallen 18% behind Xbox One in the US.
