Rockstar Games has been working on a brand new IP ever since the release of Red Dead Redemption 2, based on the latest rumor.

The information comes from one of the individuals who have been leaking the alleged GTA V source code. As per them, Rockstar Games is working on new IP with the help of a “hugely popular” third party developer. The game has apparently been in development since 2018, alongside after the release of Red Dead Redemption 2.

Recently in October, 2023, Take-Two Interactive had filed a trademark for “Project Ethos”, though it’s unclear whether this is for Rockstar Games’ new IP. Back in 2021, during its Earnings call, the company had stated that it was preparing over 60 new releases, 23 of which are “immersive core” titles, between April, 2022 and March, 2024. As such, the trademark could be for any of these unannounced titles.

According to the source, there are two new IPs in development at Rockstar Games. One of them is the resurrected project titled Agent, while the other features a medieval fantasy setting. They mentioned that, even though it is in development, Agent will likely be released later on, during the next console generation. They added that a medieval fantasy IP could be a new route For Rockstar Games, possibly to rival the likes of Elder Scrolls and Elden Ring. As such, it will also take gameplay in a new direction, with a likely emphasis on melee weapons and sorcery.

Regarding the recently announced GTA VI, the individual stated that while it will sell very well, it will probably mark the death of the series. In their opinion, people will buy it simply because GTA V was popular, but the “millennial cringe” will turn a lot of people away from the series in the long run.

GTA VI is set to arrive on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. A PC version has not been announced.
