GSC Game World has updated STALKER 2 with a massive day-one patch almost as large as the game itself.
If you have pre-loaded the 143 GB of data for STALKER 2, you will need to download nearly the entire game again as part of this day-one patch. The new patch, now live on Xbox consoles, is 139 GB compared to the 143 GB pre-load.
This download size makes it one of the largest day-one patches ever released for a game. Typically, day-one updates might cross 10 GB, but nothing has ever approached the massive 139 GB download required here. While the Call of Duty series typically offers some of the largest updates in gaming, even they have not reached such a massive size.
Fortunately, those who pick up the physical copy or download it closer to launch will only need to download the game once. This patch is only necessary for those who downloaded the pre-load that was available a few days ago.
The large download size might be due to how Xbox releases its updates. Xbox updates are often bigger compared to those on PC and PlayStation 4/5. For instance, the 60 FPS update for Assassin’s Creed Syndicate is just under 1 GB on PS5, but over 30 GB on the Xbox Series S|X. Such a huge difference means Xbox console owners will have to download nearly the whole game.
Early impressions of STALKER 2 suggested some performance issues on Xbox consoles, but with the day-one patch now available, these issues might be resolved. The game supports both performance and quality modes on Xbox, offering up to 4K and 60 FPS. It’s also available for PC, and with timed exclusivity confirmed, it will be available for PS5 at a later date.
STALKER 2 will be released on November 20 for PC and Xbox Series S|X. The game will also be available to all subscribers on Xbox Game Pass at launch.
