Unknown Worlds has announced that Subnautica 2 has surpassed 4 million copies sold worldwide less than a week after entering Early Access.
According to the studio, the survival sequel crossed the milestone following its May 14 Early Access launch. The game had already sold more than 1 million copies on launch day and exceeded 2 million sales within its first 12 hours on the market. Steam player activity also reached major numbers, with peak concurrent users climbing above 467,000 players.
The developer confirmed that Subnautica 2 currently holds a “Very Positive” user rating on Steam, with 91% positive reviews across more than 73,000 user reviews.
Unknown Worlds said future Early Access updates will continue focusing heavily on community feedback. Planned improvements include adjustments to creature aggression, enemy detection ranges, survival tools, and broader gameplay systems following player criticism and balance discussions during launch week.
Executive Producer Fernando Melo thanked players for the game’s strong reception, calling the launch period “an incredible moment” for the development team. Melo also stated that player feedback will continue helping shape the direction of the game throughout Early Access development.
Subnautica 2 serves as the official follow-up to the original Subnautica franchise, which has sold more than 18.5 million copies worldwide. The sequel introduces a new alien planet, additional ecosystems, upgraded visuals built using Unreal Engine 5, and optional four-player cooperative gameplay for the first time in the series.
Subnautica 2 is currently available in Early Access on Steam, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox PC, and the Epic Games Store.
