Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut Is a Disappointing and Expensive PS5 Upgrade

Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut has finally brought a native PS5 version of the game, but is it worth the price to upgrade to this version?

Unfortunately, the new additions are minuscule while the asking price for the PS5 version is high, especially since you can already enjoy the game running at 60 FPS on the PS5, albeit at a lower 1800p resolution. So what makes the PS5 version different from the PS4?

Ghost of Tsushima PS4 vs. PS5 Difference Explained

Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut is available on both PS4 and PS5. What is the difference between both versions? The PS5 version runs all the cutscenes in real-time and also supports Japanese lip sync. In the case of the PS4, there are some pre-rendered cutscenes. This also gives the PS5 an advantage as the transition between cutscenes is smoother while they look much better than on the PS4 with compressed video files.

The other major difference comes in the form of Haptics and Adaptive Triggers. The implementation of these on Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut is noteworthy and can make a big difference, especially if you are a fan of them. So far, many outlets have praised the DualSense support with these features so if you think this is worth the extra price, go for it.

As for the visuals themselves, the only difference that we have found is the resolution, which jumps from 1800p to 4K, but the catch is that this is checkerboard resolution, so you can spot artifacts, and it is not as sharper as DLSS or a native image.

How To Upgrade From PS4 to PS5?

This step is easier said than done, thanks to the needless complication from Sony. First, there is no regular edition of Ghost of Tsushima on the PS5 so you have to purchase the Iki Island expansion. This will cost you $19.99. Afterward, if you want the native PS5 version, you will have to spend an additional $9.99. If you want to skip this mundane upgrade process, simply buy the upgrade for $29.99 and jump straight from PS4 to PS5 along with the Iki Island expansion.

To add some additional burden to this all, once you have done the upgrade, you will need to transfer your Ghost of Tsushima PS4 save to the PS5.
