Certain Affinity is currently working on 3 major projects, including a brand new Halo title in collaboration with 343 Industries.
Speaking during an interview, Max Hoberman, founder and CEO of Certain Affinity, revealed that the studio currently has 3 major projects in development, the biggest of which involves its continued partnership with 343 Industries, likely referring to the rumored new Halo title. He said that he could not go into details regarding this project at this point in time.
Hoberman shared that Certain Affinity’s second project is a totally unannounced co-development on something very “big” and very “exciting” that’s brand new. It’s an original IP developed by a team of 30 to 35 people. According to him, the game is likely to be announced in December, 2023, suggesting that it may happen at the upcoming The Game Awards on December 7.
The Certain Affinity CEO further mentioned that the studio also has a third and a very small fourth project. The latter is an original game that is being self-funded by the studio. The development team built a playable prototype back in Fall around the time of last year’s Gamescom, and spun up a development team to work on it in December, 2022. He mentioned that the studio is currently investing its savings in building this original title, but it can’t do that forever. Therefore, it will be looking to pitch it and find a partner to provide further funding.
Regarding the project that is being developed in collaboration with 343 Industries, Bitcast host Ains had mentioned earlier that development on a new Halo campaign is current underway. While he didn’t have anything specific to share, he said that this is part of the restructure that is building the next generation of Halo on Unreal Engine. Based on his estimate, the earliest one would expect to see the next Halo single-player campaign, outside of Firefight and other things the studio is currently doing in Infinite, is a couple years from now, implying that the game is far from release.
