The development of Part 3 of Square Enix’s Final Fantasy VII Remake trilogy is proceeding on time and on schedule.
During a recent interview with ComicBook, Final Fantasy VII Remake trilogy director Naoki Hamaguchi revealed that the development of Part 3 is “proceeding on time and on schedule,” adding that the team is confident the third and final entry will serve as a fitting conclusion to the ambitious project. He also noted that preparations for an eventual announcement are “steadily underway,” suggesting that fans may not have to wait much longer for new details.
While Hamaguchi didn’t share much on Final Fantasy VII Remake Part 3, he highlighted that the team is focused on delivering a complete and fully realized experience rather than simply wrapping up the story. This is in line with the direction of prior entries, which have consistently expanded in scope, from the character-driven design of the first game to the vast open-world approach seen in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth.
The Final Fantasy VII Remake trilogy director also talked about the development journey so far, describing the trilogy as an effort to continually push boundaries. Instead of repeating the same formula, the team has approached each entry as an opportunity to scale up gameplay systems and world design. This mindset is now shaping the final chapter, which aims to fully realize the vision the developers have been building toward for over a decade.
Besides Part 3, Hamaguchi discussed the challenges involved in bringing Rebirth to additional platforms, including the Nintendo Switch 2. According to him, adapting the game required rethinking rendering, lighting, and streaming systems to ensure a consistent experience across both handheld and docked play. Despite these technical adjustments, the core content remains unchanged across platforms.
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is available for PlayStation 5 and Windows PC. Nintendo Switch 2 and Xbox Series X|S versions are set for release on June 3, 2026.
