The release date for the latest entry in the Final Fantasy series, Final Fantasy XVI, is being teased by a reliable insider.

Twitter user The Snitch, who has a great track record with prior leaks, is now teasing something via a cryptic message, which appears to hint at the release date for Square Enix’s Final Fantasy XVI.

The cryptic message shared by The Snitch reads:

in the loneliness of the night

a light blinded my eyes

twenty two grains of sand

and a crystal that protected me

six nations divided

“Six nations” and “twenty two grains of sand” appears to imply that the release date for Final Fantasy XVI is June 22, 2023. Another hint that suggests that the game may be released in the month of June, 2023 is the mention of “Valisthea – 06:16” in a PlayStation commercial from some time ago. The world of Final Fantasy XVI is known as Valisthea, and the “06: 16” may have implied a June 16, 2023 release at the time. Plans may have changed, however, and the game’s launch might have been pushed ahead by around a week to June 22, 2023, which is what The Snitch’s tweet suggests.

According to the official site for Final Fantasy XVI, the land of Valisthea is studded with Mothercrystals—glittering mountains of crystal that tower over the realms around them, blessing them with aether. For generations, people have flocked to these beacons to take advantage of their blessing, using the aether to conjure magicks that let them live lives of comfort and plenty. Great powers have grown up around each Mothercrystal, and an uneasy peace has long reigned between them. Yet now the peace falters as the spread of the Blight threatens to destroy their dominions.

Previously, during a recent interview with Final Fantasy XVI developers Naoki Yoshida, Hiroshi Takai, and Kazutoyo Maehiro, it was revealed that the game will feature a second playable character in addition to the protagonist, Clive Rosfield.
