Sales of Square Enix’s recently released action role-playing game, Final Fantasy XVI, have reached 3 million copies worldwide.
The official Final Fantasy XVI Twitter account has revealed that the game’s sales figure has crossed the 3 million units mark in the first week of its release. This means that the game has attained the highest first week sales out of all PS5 exclusives released to date, surpassing the likes of Demon’s Souls, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, and Returnal.
Square Enix has clarified that this sales figure is based on Final Fantasy XVI copies physically shipped and digitally sold. However, given how retailers generally stock early copies in the ballpark of pre-orders, the physical copies are essentially sold through.
Previously, it was reported that some of the boss fights in Final Fantasy XVI have been causing PS5 consoles to overheat. Twitter user TheSphereHunter stated that she has been playing a certain PS5 game that hasn’t yet been released, where a boss fight made her console overheat to the point where it just turned off completely at the end of the fight. Meanwhile, some members of gaming enthusiast forum, Reset Era, have also been having overheating issues with the game. One member mentioned that he was fighting the Morbol boss when his PS5 showed a message stating that the console needed to be turned off in order to cool down.
Regardless of whether this is a common problem with those playing the game, it’s always a good idea to keep your console’s vents, fan and heat sink clean from potential dust that may accumulate over time.
Final Fantasy XVI is a 2023 action role-playing game developed and published by Square Enix. Serving as the sixteenth major entry in the renowned Final Fantasy series, the game has initially launched for the PlayStation 5 as a timed exclusive. It introduces players to a world filled with segmented open environments and an engaging combat system that combines melee and magic-based attacks. Familiar elements from the series make a return, such as the Chocobos and formidable summoned monsters known as Eikons. These Eikons can be both powerful bosses to be battled against and valuable allies whose powers can be harnessed in combat through channeling.
