Insomniac Games May Be Working On A Title Set In The Spider-Verse

Sony Interactive Entertainment and Insomniac Games may be working on an unannounced title set in the Spider-Verse storyline.

Insomniac Games was recently hit  by a ransomware attack, leading to the studio’s internal data getting leaked. The ransomware gang has shared some of the aforementioned data online, among which is mention of “additional support for Spider-Verse”. This suggest that the Spider-Man developer may be working on a brand new title set in the Spider-Verse.

Collecting all Spider-bots in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 leads to a story segment that links the game to the Spider-Verse. This may have been an early hint at a full fledged game based on the Spider-Verse movies. Insomniac Games has also been working on a multiplayer project, and the mention of “additional support for Spider-Verse” suggests that the two may be related. It is, therefore, possible that the multiplayer game may be set in the Spider-Verse, where players have the opportunity to create their own character, with full customization for their suit and abilities.

This is all speculation for now, of course, but the mention of Spider-Verse in the leaked documents and the huge success of Sony’s movie series suggests that it would be a no-brainer for the console make to pursue a game adaptation.

Recently, during a Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 panel at the Fan Expo in San Francisco, Venom voice actor Tony Todd revealed that Insomniac Games only used 10% of his voice lines in the game, suggesting that the cut content may have been saved for the future. It’s possible that the developer has downloadable content in store that will feature the powerful alien symbiote. Todd shared that he recorded lines for a scrapped scenario in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 where Miles Morales would have the symbiote. It’s unclear whether Insomniac Games plans on exploring this story arc in a potential sequel or DLC.
