An internet connection is required to pair the detachable disc drive to the new slim version of the PS5, based on the latest information.
Images of the Modern Warfare 3 PS5 Slim bundle have revealed that an internet connection will be required in order to pair the detachable disc drive with the console upon setup. This is likely to prevent unofficial drives from being able to function and to block the possibility of illegal bluray discs from running on the console.
For the uninitiated, the PS5 Slim delivers greater choice and flexibility to players via a smaller form factor, an attachable Ultra HD Blu-ray Disc Drive, and a 1TB SSD for more internal storage. The new model has been reduced in volume by more than 30%, and weight by 18% and 24% compared to the previous models. There are four individual cover panels, with the top portion being in a glossy look, while the bottom remaining in matte.
In terms of dimensions, the regular disc version of the PS5 comes in at 390 mm × 260 mm × 104 mm, while the new slim version comes in at 358 mm × 96 mm × 216 mm. Meanwhile, the digital version of the regular model is approximately 390 mm × 260 mm × 92 mm, while the new slim version of the digital edition is approximately 358 mm × 80 mm × 216 mm. In terms of mass, the regular disc version of the PS5 weighs around 4.5 kg, while the new slim version comes in at 3.2 kg. Meanwhile, the digital version of the regular model is approximately 3.9 kg, while the new slim version of the digital edition is approximately 2.6 kg.
