The PC port of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 has received harsh reviews on Steam, and the game now ranks among the lowest PlayStation launches on the platform.
As of now, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 has received around 4,000 reviews on Steam (via), almost 57% of which are positive. The reason behind the mixed reviews involves a range of technical issues that the game’s PC port is apparently plagued with. As seen below, one Steam user took sums it up nicely using a popular cautionary warning given to a young Peter Parker by his uncle Ben, saying, “with great port comes great responsibility”.
Another Steam user criticized Insomniac Games and Nixxes Software for releasing a port that, in their view, isn’t finished or optimized for PC. Many other reviews highlighted the poor performance, ray tracing-related bugs, and frequent crashes, pointing towards the possibility of a memory leak. Some also mentioned getting stutters when making quick turns while swinging around the game’s open world.
In comparison to the current positive review percentage of 56.9% for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered has a positive review percentage of 95.88%, and Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales has a positive review percentage of 93.25%. Meanwhile, other first-party PlayStation titles like Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection (89.87% positive reviews), Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered (77.64% positive reviews), Horizon Forbidden West (89.63% positive reviews) have also fared a lot better than the latest web-swinging adventure. Despite having several technical issues of its own at launch, The Last of Us Part 1 currently has a higher positive review percentage of 76.79%.
Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 was released for PS5 on October 20, 2023, and for PC on January 30, 2025. The game is developed by Insomniac Games and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment. It draws inspiration from the comic book mythology and various other media adaptations of the Marvel Comics character. The story follows Peter Parker and Miles Morales as they face off against Kraven the Hunter and the alien Venom symbiote.
