Nintendo is expected to hold a Mini Direct or a Partner Showcase event later this month in February, 2025, according to Jeff Grubb.
During the latest episode of the Last of the Nintendogs podcast, co-host Jeff Grubb, who is well-known for his sources within the game industry, mentioned hearing from a reliable source that a Nintendo Direct will happen later this month in February, 2025. Though, he believes that it is unlikely to be a major presentation that fans has been asking for.

Grubb believes that the upcoming presentation from Nintendo will be something along the lines of a Mini Direct or a Partner Showcase. He said that this is a strange time, with the Nintendo Switch 2 also getting its own dedicated Direct on April 2, 2025. He speculated that this month’s Direct will likely include new details on Metroid Prime 4, such as a release date. Jeff thinks it would be a good strategy for Nintendo to get Switch games out of the way before focusing on the launch lineup for its next console.
This isn’t the first we’ve heard of a Nintendo Direct presentation happening later this month. During a recent episode of the XdC News podcast, co-host Pedro Henrique Lutti Lippe (also known as Brazil on famiboards) talked about a major announcement planned for an upcoming Direct presentation next month. He mentioned that that the Nintendo Switch will get one final “big” game from Nintendo that is a “new version” of a beloved but “somewhat niche” franchise.
A “new version of a niche beloved franchise” sounds like it may be a remake or a remaster. Though, given how Brazil has already clarified that it isn’t a remaster, that leaves us with the possibility of a remake. A remake of Fire Emblem: Genealogy of the Holy War is rumored to be in development. Despite the niche nature of the Fire Emblem series, it is considered to be a big deal among its fanbase.
