PS5 Hypervisor Exploit Is Now Available For Firmware 13.60

by Muhammad Ali Bari

A hypervisor exploit for PS5 firmware 13.60 has been released, supporting all consoles that haven’t yet been updated to version 14.00 or higher.

In his latest YouTube video, modding enthusiast and content creator MODDED WARFARE revealed that a hypervisor exploit for PS5 firmware 13.60, called Bypervisor Reborn, is now available, removing several limitations that previously affected jailbroken consoles. The original vulnerability was documented by Sonic-Iso, who explained that the bug had already been patched in firmware 14.10. The exploit takes advantage of a security weakness involving the console’s hypervisor during its transition out of Rest Mode, allowing read-and-write access to the hypervisor’s address space.

The implementation currently supports firmware versions 13.00, 13.20 and 13.60, though developers are also working on compatibility with older versions, potentially extending support as far back as firmware 6.00. However, the release is not yet a complete, user-friendly jailbreak enhancement, as it doesn’t include the additional patches or homebrew functionality needed to unlock all its potential benefits, meaning users will need to wait for further development.

One of the main expected improvements is the ability to run Linux on PS5 consoles running firmware up to 13.60. Previously, Linux support was more limited, with firmware 7.61 being the upper limit. The exploit could also help bring advanced homebrew capabilities to a wider range of jailbreakable consoles.

Another expected benefit is improved support for fake packages, potentially allowing compatible game backups to run with fewer performance and storage limitations. However, this functionality depends on additional developments that have not yet been released.

Recent developments in the PS5 homebrew scene allowed hackers to make significant progress toward expanding access to newer console software versions. The Slopkit is a project that is being prepared to support several newer PS5 firmware versions, opening the door to a WebKit-based entry point. These files provide the addresses the software needs to locate functions and other components on different versions of the PS5 system software. A jailbreak for PS5 firmware 13.60, just two versions behind the latest firmware 14.10, is available.
